The operating point is used to determine the number of stages. This also displays a schematic of the flow system and mass balances. Next, select “operating point” to show how the operating point P is found. Check “show E 1” to show the extract composition. Select “mixing point” to see how the mixing point M and the extract composition E 1 in the first stage are determined. Use buttons to view the compositions of the feed F, solvent S or raffinate R N in the solute (blue), solvent (red) and carrier (green) phases. Select “plot points” and then drag the black feed point (labeled with a circled F) to a desired feed composition within a restricted range of compositions. The solvent mass flow rate and the desired raffinate (refined product) composition R N are given.
